WHAT IS MARU MATCHA? This Japanese Matcha is made from gyokuro (meaning "jade dew") tea leaves, one of the rarest and most sought-after form of green tea in the world.

About 20 days before harvest, leaves are shaded from the sun to promote chlorophyll and l-theanine production, leading to matcha's distinctive taste and electric jade green color.

In Spring, only the youngest, softest, and most vibrant leaves are hand-picked, steamed, dried, and de-stemmed. The product of this process is called tencha, which is then ground into a fine powder to finally become matcha. When you drink a cup of matcha or add a spoonful to baking, cooking, or smoothies, you are consuming the entire tea leaf, and all the nutrients that come with it.
